5 Places to Safely Donate Clothing During COVID-19

All of this time spent at home over the last few months has given many the opportunity to clean out closets and drawers. And, if you are anything like me, those clothes will sit in a pile in the corner for weeks! In order to help prevent that, below is a list of organizations in NC that you may not have heard of that accept clothing donations. Organizations altered their drop-off procedures to allow for proper social distancing. Make sure to check out the organization’s websites to get more information!

1. Dress for Success

Dress for Success was founded in 2008 with the mission to “empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and life.” They accept business suits and other professional attire in good condition. These clothes are used to help unemployed women in the Triangle land on their feet. However, in order to comply with COVID-19 guidelines, they have made changes to their donation procedure. Seal your donations in cardboard box or plastic box with a lid!

2. Note in the Pocket

Note in the Pocket works with local schools and social service agencies to help children in poverty. They provide children referred to them with 2 weeks worth of outfits. Note in the Pocket give children new socks and underwear, shoes, bottoms, tops, and outerwear. They are accepting donations of children clothing at their Raleigh location by appointment. InterAct saves lives, rebuilds lives, and secures safer futures for victims and survivors and their families.” InterAct uses items that are donated to help victims of domestic and sexual abuse rebuild their lives. They accept donations of clothing, supplies, and other similar items. You can make a donation at their Pass it On Thrift Stores in Raleigh or Fuquay Varina.

5. Dorcas

Dorcas mission statement is to provide “compassionate assistance to area residents to empower people to become stable and self-sufficient.” They accept donations of clothing, furniture, and money to help people in the community.
